With all of the excitement (and some doubts) surrounding Mayor Rawlings’ Grow South vision, it’s refreshing to know dirt is turning in South Dallas with Lancaster Urban Village. City Wide CDC acquired land at the 4400 block of South Lancaster Road. It’s the future site of Lancaster Urban Village, a mixed-use project that will house 193-units of affordable and market-rate housing, 14,000 square feet of commercial space, a 392-space parking garage, and the 46,000-square-foot expansion of the Urban League.
In addition to bringing needed amenities to an underserved community, Lancaster Urban Village will help clean up the Lancaster corridor, where the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital is located. The VA Hospital has more than 30,000 visitors a year. The site at 4400 South Lancaster was the former Sunset Motel, a place where overwhelming criminal activities were taking place.
With Lancaster Urban Village, Grow South is off to a great start. (Click here for a link to the full Grow South plan.)
